The English Channel has been crossed more than 1100 times until now. About 900 crossings have been made from England to France and around 250 crossings from France to England. Most of the swimmers that completed the crossing are man but women have made it too. The record of the Channel crossings is held by Alison Streeter, who managed to make 43 successful swims across the channel. British star David Walliams, well known actor and writer had the initiative of crossing the English Channel for charity. The purpose of this attempt is to raise money for Sport Relief. The comedian is aware of the difficulty of his attempt and that is why he trained himself for almost 12 months with former Olympic pentathlete Greg Whyte. Walliams is saying that he will just be in a pair of Speedos and goggles - it s what the public wants, but he took his training very seriously. The crossing of the Channel is known as the Everest of open-water swimming and only a few of the ones that try it succeed. But jokes...

During this gap in coverage, between 2250 and 5100 in prescription drug spending, Medicare Part D participants lose coverage, must continue to pay their monthly premiums and are 100 responsible for paying for their medications themselves. Once they hit the doughnut hole, this massive jump in monthly medication expenditures makes it very difficult for some Plan D participants to cope financially. In a recent Business Week article, Bruce Stuart, director of the Peter Lamy Center on Drug Therapy Aging at the University of Maryland, estimated that about 38 of Medicare beneficiaries are at risk of hitting the doughnut hole this year. This estimation means that 7 million to 10 million participants could hit the doughnut hole and lose coverage for part of this year. Seniors were expecting to receive a benefit that would help them save money all year long and now they are getting slapped with massive monthly medication bills part way through the year. says Jeff Uhl, president of Universal Drugstore...

As your calendar pages fly by, carrying you through October and into November, many of you will participate in that age-old tradition called fall housecleaning. You ll be packing up the swim toys, summer clothes, picnic baskets, and oscillating fans. Then you ll dig out the winter coats, boots, comfy afghans, fireplace tools, and, if you are lucky enough to live where snow falls, sleds and ice skates. You ll be busy cleaning out the dust and grime tracked in by kids and dogs and by breezes blowing through open windows all the busy summer long. Before you snuggle in for the winter to enjoy family evenings around the crackling fireplace or have those holiday gatherings with all their hustle and bustle, you ll probably wax, polish, and clean your house until the fireplace glow is reflected throughout the room. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of this time-honored tradition. Not only can you make your home clean, well ordered, and homey, ready for the long winter months, but you can...

That means you probably aren t a saver...you re likely a spender. Unfortunately, if you aren t already a saver, then you have little chance of developing a saver s mentality. There are always exceptions, of course, but you are either a saver or a spender, and for most folks, no matter how hard they try, they ll never be able to change. And you know what. There s nothing inherently wrong with either unless you take it to extremes, of course . It has a lot to do with your God-given personality. So, if you re a spender, not a saver, accept the way you are. Acknowledge your weakness. I know I should save more. I will find a way to save more and plan for my future. Now, develop a plan to overcome your weakness, one that doesn t involve changing who you are. Because we both know that ll never happen. Accept the fact you will have to do a couple things that may be unpleasant to you, for various reasons: 1. Figure out what you earn and what you spend 2. Adjust spending until you reach your desired...

Your body may be sending you signals that you need to take a break from alcohol. It may be time to detox alcohol from your body if you are feeling run down and tired, having digestive problems or experiencing achy muscles. If you drink and party regularly and have any of these symptoms, a simple alcohol detox may be for you. With repeated or long term use, alcohol can cause liver and kidney problems, addiction and weight gain. While drinking and partying often seem harmless, ingesting alcohol on a regular basis can lead to the build up of toxins and sugars and eventually to alcoholism, or addiction to alcohol. Overuse and dependence on alcohol can have serious health risks as well. However, most of us don t have a serious problem, and use alcohol socially. Even so, what can we do to limit the long term effects of alcohol usage. In its simplest form, an alcohol detoxification program simply involves abstaining from alcohol for a period of time and allowing the body to eliminate all traces of...

Lucid dreaming is simply being aware that you are dreaming while you are in a dream. Learning how to do lucid dreaming intentionally is a personal growth tool. It may help you resolve personal problems because you re able to consciously take an active role in your dreams. It can also be a lot of fun. Lucid dreaming is a challenging art to master, but there are steps that can be taken to help you achieve the state. As you go to sleep, use the suggestion: As I am dreaming tonight, I will realize I am dreaming use your own words . It s important to do this as you are drifting off to sleep, but you can do it throughout the day as well. Sometimes as you are making this suggestion you may actually have a memory of a previous dream come to mind. Your attitude should be one of positive expectation, but gentle inviting rather than insisting or applying any type of pressure or anxiety. Next, work on remembering your dreams after you wake up. By getting the mind used to remembering your dreams, you are...

Diarrhea is defined as frequent, loose, watery stools or an abnormal increase in the frequency and water content of the stool. All stools or bowel movements contain water. However, when the water content increases or becomes excessive and the frequency of the stools increase this is known as diarrhea. It is important to know what a normal bowel frequency is for you. For some people three soft formed stools per day is not abnormal. But for others, three stools per day would be a significant increase in their normal bowel frequency and when that increase in frequency is accompanied by an increase in water content then this is identified as diarrhea. Diarrhea occurs because there is not enough liquid absorbed by the colon. When we eat, the food we take in is mixed with large amounts of water as a part of the digestion process. So by the time the food mixture reaches the colon it is essentially a liquid substance. Then the water is absorbed by the colon leaving a soft, formed stool. It is when...

The new AP TOP 25 college football poll is out and it s pretty much as expected. Ohio State remains number one. Texas is number two. These two teams go to war this week in Texas. One will be left standing with championship hopes. Last season it was a great game. Texas managed to take home the win and it propelled them to the national championship. USC makes a move from 6th in the preseason to 3rd. They looked very impressive in their win this week. Auburn and Notre Dame are tied for fourth. Notre Dame was 2 in the preseason poll, so they slip a few notches here. Their game against Georgia Tech was not impressive. I thought they might slip down a few more places because of their just get by game play. I don t even know how they received 8 first place votes. That s 8 people who evidently don t watch the actual games. West Virginia moves into the 6 slot after their lights out victory over hapless Marshall. Coming in at number 9 is Florida State who is fresh off their grueling battle against...
